Initializing Files at the POS Units

After a power outage for any length of time, it is best to shut off all units and do things *in sequence* to avoid further problems and panic! Do the following:

Starting with the master:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Put the mode switch in P1 mode
- Put a pen or pointed device into the intitialization hole next to the power key and power the unit on simultaneously while holding in the pen. [THIS IS CALLED A ‘SOFT INIT’]
- If you get a “V” number [version number], then sign on with all 9s
- Put the unit in Training Mode [TM] and test out a quick sale, utilizing the Preset or Speed keys, etc. If all is well...then do the exact same thing to all registers in sequence.
If you encounter strange characters or “garbage” on any of the displays, the unit will not allow you to sign on...or anything else similar, most likely the satellite files on the unit were corrupted.
Do this:
~~~~~~~~
- Put the unit’s mode switch in P1 mode
- Do a ‘SOFT INIT’ again and get your “V’ number [version] on the display and sign on with all 9s
- Get out the programming sheet from under the plastic overlay on the left keyboard
- Using the numbers on the RIGHT side keyboard [where the money goes]..

hit the # 1
then FILE NO on the left
then START/END on the left
then INIT on the left
then PRACTICE/CHANGE on the left

Then hit # 2 on the right and repeat sequence above; Do file 1 - 10, 15, 16, and 17.

Now go back through the SAME sequence of numbers; 1 - 10, 15, 16, and 17 and do this:

- Using the numbers on the RIGHT side keyboard [where the money goes]..

hit the # 1
then FILE NO on the left
then START/END on the left
then SEND on the left
then you will see FILE REQUEST on the display; At this point...you MUST wait until you see “ OK” on the display, before moving onto the next file number.

Once this is all completed, and all goes well, you should be able to retest the unit in Training Mode (TM) and be sure all the keys work properly. Dont forget to complete the 'sale' before attempting to sign off.

Repeat on all the downed units in sequence. Believe it or not, this takes a LOT LESS time than trying to hunt down a hardware problem which may or may not exist due to the power failure. If the unit sustained hardware problems, doing the above will let you know right away!

If this seems confusing, feel free to call the number below and leave a voice mail; we will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
